It is northeast of Macon, located just before Eatonton on the way to Athens along U.S. Highway 441, and it is located on the Oconee River. The relatively rapid current of the Oconee here made this an attractive location to build a city. It was the capital of Georgia from 1806 to 1868, notably during the American Civil War. Milledgeville was preceded as the capital city by Louisville, and it was succeeded by Atlanta, the current capital. Interstate 675 (Georgia) $89.22 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Interstate 675 (I675) was built in southeast metro Atlanta during the mid1980s to alleviate Interstate 75 to the west, for traffic bound to Interstate 285 east. It is 11.04 miles (17.77 km) in length, running from I75 in the south from the city of Stockbridge to I285 at its north end. I675 is also designated as the Terrell Starr Parkway and is also known as the unsigned Georgia state route 413. At one time, I675 was to connect with Georgia 400 in northeast Atlanta. However, within the Perimeter this would have destroyed many neighborhoods including historic Inman Park, and community opposition was fierce. Because the road was unnecessary due to three other existing north/south Interstates across and around the city, the road was stopped by thengovernor of Georgia Jimmy Carter in 1975. It also would have connected to Interstate 420, and to Interstate 485 (Presidential Parkway), both of which were also (mostly) never built, for the same reasons. What would have been the highway interchange of this road and I485 is now the location of the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library. North Carolina Highway 106 and Georgia State Route 246 $93.99 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Georgia State Route 246 and North Carolina Highway 106 are actually a single road that runs from U.S. Route 23441 / SR 15 at Dillard, Georgia, northeast to U.S. Route 64 / NC 28 (Franklin Road westbound and Main Street eastbound) in Highlands, North Carolina, opposite First Street. It crosses the state line five times in a short distance as it winds around the mountains through switchbacks. It is known as Highlands Road in Rabun County, Georgia and Dillard Road in Macon County, North Carolina. It is an unusual highway in Georgia because a portion of the highway is actually located in North Carolina. Even the North Carolina portion of the road is maintained by the Georgia Department of Transportation rather than NCDOT. The highway starts north of Dillard and climbs through the mountains to Sky Valley, Georgia, which is only accessible via an intersection in North Carolina (or via dirt road from the south).
