Do you think Marching Band should be considered a sport?

Seriously.

It’s physically challenging, especially for drummers and very low brass players.

Discuss?

Yes, it should. A sport is considered to be intense physical activity, where you train to compete. Both of these qualities are part of marching band. People who have never been in marching band before might not understand this but it takes a lot of muscles to roll your feet at 140+ tempo. Now add this to carrying a horn (I personally play Euphonium, it is the heaviest instrument to carry using your biceps, since Tuba is supported in your shoulder and so is battery). Plus having to control your breathing, play right notes (memorize music), counting, staying in tune, watching drum major for tempo, remembering count structure for drill, square shoulders, straight legs, trusting your band mates when you’re marching backwards,making your “dot” while staying in your form, all this makes for a very challenging task (all these have to go constantly through your mind). In my high school we practiced every day from 7 am to 1 pm every day, plus as school starting getting closer we did rehearsals from 7 am to 9 pm. During school we only rehearsed before school for 1 1/2 hours because law says we can only rehearse 8 hours a week “so we don’t over do it” ha.

Recent study shows that during a performance our heartbeats reach up to 200 beat per minute, when 60 to 80 beat per minute at rest or normal.

So now you tell me, do we earn our PE Credit?
