Jazz dance shoes very slippery?
I have just bought a pair of leather soled jazz shoes and although they’re tolerable on regular wooden studio floors, they are unbelievably slippery on the stage that we do our concerts on. Is there anything non-damaging that one can do to stop too much slipperiness, or will this go away once I’ve worn them in a bit?
I haven’t been dancing very long and up until now have just been wearing rubber soled shoes, but they wanted a particular type for the concert.

i actually did a report on this for school a few years ago. there are some dancers that put a little bit of soda on the bottoms of their shoes, which does work but i worry about the effect of that on your shoes, if you have no other option then try this. another option would be to get rosin, which you can buy at any dance store. if it isnt already crushed then just put it on a paper towel or inside some sort of container and step LIGHTLY in it. just the toe of your foot, not the heel. if you put too much on you wont be able to turn. rosin is the most common option. another option which i found works suprisingly well is to get a brush with wire bristles and brush the bottoms of your shoes back and forth quickly, this revives the material on the bottom of your shoes to help it stick better, because over time the material gets work down and becomes smooth.
