Capitalism by Allen, Larry [Hardcover]

$109.01

From Adam Smith and the Industrial Revolution to Wall Street and multinational corporations, capitalism has emerged as one of the worlds leading economic systems. This work traces the evolution of capitalism from its roots in medieval Europes rigid economy, through the laissez faire abuses of the nineteenth century, to its contemporary form as shaped by competition with socialism.Covering the period from 1450 to the present, this work examines significant laws, government policies, treaties, events, concepts, and people. Entries include Federal Reserve System, Great Depression (19291939), International Monetary Fund, Privatization Revolution, Refeudalization, and Welfare State.Written clearly and concisely for the general reader, each entry gives historical facts and social context, not only defining the term itself, but clarifying and describing how it influenced and shaped the economic, political, and social fabric of society at large. Each entry also includes crossreferences to related terms and bibliographic citations. An introduction, a comprehensive bibliography, and a subject index complete this work. Vocal Jazz

Vocal Jazz

$76.47

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles Jazz singing can be defined by the instrumental approach to the voice, where the singer can match the instruments in their stylistic approach to the lyrics, improvised or otherwise, or through scat singing; that is, the use of nonsensical meaningless nonmorphemic syllables to imitate the sound of instruments. The roots of jazz music were very much vocal, with field hollers and ceremonial chants, but whilst the blues maintained a strong vocal tradition, with singers such as Ma Rainey and Bessie Smith heavily influencing the progress of American popular music in general, early jazz bands only featured vocalists periodically, albeit those with a more bluesy tone of voice; one of the first Jazz recordings, the 1917 Original Dixieland Jass Band recordings featured one Sarah Martin as vocalist. The Roots

The Roots

$89.22

High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Roots is an American hip hop band from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. They are famed for beginning with a jazzy, eclectic approach to hip hop which still includes live instrumentals. Their debut album was released in 1993 and they have collaborated with a wide range of artists from different genres, including Roy Ayers and Cody Chesnutt. The Roots have generated a great deal of critical acclaim and influenced numerous rap and RB acts. On March 2, 2009, The Roots became the house band on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. The groups original lineup was formed when rapper Black Thought (Tariq Trotter) and drummer Questlove (Ahmir Thompson) became friends at the Philadelphia High School for Creative Performing Arts around 1987. They began to do shows around Philadelphia and New York City with bassist Leon Hub Hubbard and rapper Malik B. By 1991, Black Thought began attending Millersville University and established the lineup, under the collective name The Square Roots.
