Whats the price of an average ride cymbal and stand for a drum set?

Whats the price of an average ride cymbal and stand for a drum set? (Not sizzle)

Nothing fancy, just need one to add on so I can Jazz and Swing!

For a lower end but decent ride cymbal you can probably get it between $50 and $150. I have a zildjian zbt ride that cost me maybe 100 dollars. I recommend sticking with brand name cymbals like zildjian sabian or paiste rather than some cheaper unknown ones. And If you buy them used, on ebay or something, you can get some good deals.

Mediocre stands for the cymbals would run between $40 and $80

Sizzle Cymbal

Sizzle Cymbal

$58.94

A sizzle cymbal is a cymbal to which rivets, chains or other rattles have been added to modify the sound. Both effects have musical uses, and can also be used to mask unwanted overtones in cymbals of lesser quality. However the best results are still generally obtained with high quality cymbals. The most common form of sizzle cymbal used in a drum kit is a large ride cymbal with a number of rivets loosely fitted but captive in holes spaced evenly around the cymbal close to the rim. This might be called the traditional pattern sizzle cymbal. The loose fit allows the rivets to rattle in the holes. Swish and to a lesser extent pang cymbals with rivets installed in this way were heavily used as main ride cymbals in the swing band era. Many early rock music drummers, such as Ringo Starr, used a secondary ride cymbal with rivets, normally a ride cymbal thinner than the main ride and ideally one size larger. This was used for variety, to back a lead break or to give extra tone colour to the whole of faster songs. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Timpledon, Miriam T./ Marseken, Susan F. SURGE16RIDE Ride With Dual-Zone Triggering and Choke

$259

The SURGE 16″ Ride Cymbal is the world’s first ride cymbal with built-in electronic triggering. Playing on the face, edge or bell; with the tip, crashing, shanking or shouldering the ride all feels the way you’d expect a cymbal to feel. Two triggering zones allow different sounds to be triggered when playing the bell and face, and even three zones can be utilized with some Roland® drum modules. Made from genuine cymbal brass-alloy, SURGE Cymbals have centuries of cymbal craftsmanship in their DNA, cross-bred with Alesis’ decades of experience in electronic triggering technology.

We Called It Music: A Generation of Jazz

We Called It Music: A Generation of Jazz

$23.43

Eddie Condon (19051973) pioneered a kind of jazz popularly known as ChicagoDixieland, though musicians refer to it simply as Condon style. Played by small ensembles with driving beat, it was and is an informal, exciting music, slightly disjointed and often mischievous. The same could be said of Condons autobiography, We Called It Music, a book widely celebrated for capturing the camaraderie of early jazz. Condons wit was as legendary as the music he boosted. Here is Condon on modern jazz: The boopers flat their fifths. We consume ours. On Bix Beiderbecke: The sound came out like a girl saying yes. On the New York subway: It was my first ride in a sewer. When his memoir was first publishedto great acclaimin 1947, he was well known as a newspaper columnist, radio personality, saloon keeper, guitarist, and bandleader. He was the ideal man to come up with an insightful portrait of the early days of white jazz, and his book offers nonpareil accounts of many of the jazz greats of that era, including Beiderbacke, Fats Waller, Jack Teagarden, Jimmy McPartland, Gene Krupa, Bessie Smith, Louis Armstrong, and Bing Crosby. These were the days when jazz was popularly associated with Paul Whiteman and Irving Berlin. Condon considered true jazz an outlaw music and himself an outlaw. He and his cohorts tried to get as close as possible to the black roots of jazz, a scandalous thing in the 20s. Along the way he facilitated one of the first integrated recording sessions. We Called It Music, now published with an introduction by Gary Giddins that places the book in historical context, remains essential reading for anyone interested in the wild and restless beginnings of Americas great musical art, or in the wit and vinegar of Eddie Condon.
