Higher end electric guitar for clean, smooth jazz tones?
Hi guys,
I am an accomplished acoustic fingerstyle guitarist. Recently, however, I have been looking to get back into electric guitar. My Ibanez RGT42fm sounds great and looks nice, but I’m looking for an upgrade. I am looking for a nice round, smooth, blue/jazz tone that will be suitable for single-note leads and chord/melody arrangements. Thus, I want something a little more playable… so maybe a bulky archtop guitar is out of the question. I don’t care how it sounds with distortion… the goal here is pure, clear tones.
Any suggestions for me? $1000-$3000 is my range.

You can always try a Fender American strat. It’s in the $1,000 price range and has great jazz, blues and all around sounds. It doesn’t have quite the sustain as a jazz box or archtop, but it’s easy to play.
