Please note that the content of this book primarily consists of articles available from Wikipedia or other free sources online. Jazz Composers Orchestra was an American jazz group founded in 1965, to further avantgarde jazz in new York. Carla Bley and Michael Mantler were important in its organization and style. Its origins lay in the Jazz Composers Guild, an organization founded by Bill Dixon which grew out of the series of 1964 concerts in New York, known as the October Revolution in Jazz and subsequent regular performance settings. A big band, formed by Bley and Mantler, became known as the Jazz Composers Guild Orchestra, which made its first record in April 1965. After the demise of the Guild, the big band continued as the Jazz Composers Orchestra. A nonprofit organisation was established in 1966, the Jazz Composers Orchestra Association Inc. (JCOA). The Orchestras first release was Communication in 1965. Their 1968 doublealbum The Jazz Composers Orchestra (also known as Communications) featured soloists Cecil Taylor, Don Cherry, Roswell Rudd, Pharoah Sanders, Larry Coryell, and Gato Barbieri. High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles The Cinematic Orchestra is a Britishbased jazz and electronic outfit, created in the late 1990s by Jason Swinscoe. The band is signed to Ninja Tune independent record label. In addition to Swinscoe, the band includes PC (former DJ Food member Patrick Carpenter) on turntables, Luke Flowers (drums), Tom Chant (Saxophone), Nick Ramm (piano), Stuart McCallum (guitar) and Phil France (double bass). Former members include Jamie Coleman (trumpet), T. Daniel Howard (drums), Federico Ughi (drums) and Alex James (piano). The most recent addition to the band is Mancunian guitarist Stuart McCallum. Swinscoe and Carpenter (PC) have also recorded together under the band name Neptune. The Cinematic Orchestras sound, in both live and studio contexts, employs a live band which improvises along with a turntablist and electronic elements such as samples provided by Swinscoe. In their studio releases Swinscoe will often remix the live source material to produce a combination of live jazz improvisation with electronica, such that it is difficult to tell where the improvisation ends and the production begins.
