Hammond/Leslie Player Question? What is the left hand doing with the switch?

Jdub, I agree….I was amazed at the video clip as well. It was some pretty amazing playing. Talent like I cant describe.

This player is switching on and off the leslie. The leslie is what changes the sound of an organ. Without the leslie, the organ is very flat and shrill. The leslie, which is actually a combination of a rotating horn (like a fan) for the highs and a rotating drum for the low sounds, gives the organ its famous sound. The leslie switch contols the speed of the motors on the leslie. In its slow position to the left, the upper horn and lower drum rotate very slowly. Once the leslie switch is flipped to the right, the motors speed up and the upper horn and lower drum rotate faster which gives it that tremolo effect. You can hear it if you listen closely. I play and listen to one enough that I can automatically tell if the leslie is on slow, fast, or off completely.
