Eastman Archtop Jazz Guitar

Cheap Archtop Guitar with a Great Pickup?
I’m a fingerstyle jazz, blues, and rock guitarist – and I am starting to get into archtop guitars, but wondered – I don’t want to spend $2,000 just to see if this is the style of guitar I want to play. I loved playing an Eastman I saw recently but it was a LOT of money – however, a bunch of different folks in the store immediately asked where I would be gigging – it seemed the right sound.
Wondered – if I get a cheap Harmony archtop and add something like a high-end Benedetto pickup – would it sound great or would it be too much of a compromise? What are your thoughts on the pickup vs the guitar materials in an archtop. Thanks for any thoughts.
When I look for a guitar, I play it without being plugged in, to hear the natural tone coming from the guitar. Compare the cheap ones to the expensive ones. See what type of woods are in both. If they use similar types of wood, then go ahead and buy the cheaper one, (assuming it was comfortable to play and you did enough research on the guitar company or guitar model to see what people say about it)… then just change the pickups to something you prefer. Most stock pickups on cheaper guitars are going to be generic in tone, even if they have a big name attached to them, like Seymour Duncan… doesn’t mean they are good pickups, in fact, they are probably generic to appeal more to a wider range of musicians…. so when you buy the expensive guitars, they have better pickups that are tailored to a specific style or genre.

Guitar $105.14 The guitar is a musical instrument with ancient roots that adapts readily to a wide variety of musical styles. It typically has six strings, but four, seven, eight, ten, eleven, twelve, thirteen and eighteenstring guitars also exist. The size and shape of the neck and the base of the guitar also vary, producing a variety of sounds. The two main types of guitars are the electric guitar and the acoustic guitar (of which the three main types are the classical guitar, the steelstring flattop guitar, and the archtop guitar). Guitars are recognized as one of the primary instruments in flamenco, jazz, blues, country, mariachi, rock music, and many forms of pop. They can also be a solo classical instrument. Guitars may be played acoustically, where the tone is produced by vibration of the strings and modulated by the hollow body, or they may rely on an amplifier that can electronically manipulate tone. Such electric guitars were introduced in the 1930s, and they have continued to have a profound influence on popular culture since then. Traditionally guitars have been constructed of various woods and strung with animal gut, or more recently, with either nylon or steel strings.
