Alto Sax with underslung Octave Key?

I used to have an alto saxaphone with an underslung octave key. It was an Elkhart, but I don’t remember specifically what kind.

Are there any other types of altos with the underslung octave keys? How much is a 6m elkhart underslung sax typically worth?

First, you should probably know that your horn was not an “Elkhart.” It was simply made in Elkhart, Indiana where the majority of instruments in the US are made. I would bet that it was a Conn 6M with the Underslung Octave key. There are several manufacturers that have made this style of sax as there were several influential folks that felt this design would eliminate the inherent problem of bent octave keys typically found on the standard sax.
